The traditional Fulani earring is the
inspiration for these one-of-a-kind, hand crafted
ceramic jars. Given to brides from grooms, or to
marrying daughters from their mothers, Fulani earrings
represent beauty and prestige among Malian tribes. The
women of the Kpando region of Ghana are famed for their
artistry in ceramics, and have captured the unique,
elegant shape of the Fulani earring for our
Fulani Candles.
For generations, women in
the village of Kpando have been admired for their unique
pottery. The forms are molded entirely by hand using no
modern equipment. The earthy glow of the seed-burnished
finish is the distinguishing mark of the ceramists of
the region.
Through
a fair trade cooperative, the jars come to us in their
gently fired state. We then fill them with eco-safe soy
and vegetable waxes and sumptuous fragrances for each
season. We absolutely love the Fulani Candle. It
embodies the whole of what
SAKILÉ
is:
natural, beautiful, and in honor of the traditions of
Africa.
